Maresca Textiles is the line of printed and embroidered textiles designed by me, Kathryn Maresca. Originally from South Carolina, I graduated from the textiles department at the Rhode Island School of Design. After graduating I spent several years working in the apparel industry in New York but ulitmately decided to move back to the south to set up my textile studio in Savannah, GA.
As a student at RISD I fell in love with the act of making. Whether it be through silkscreen printing, knitting, embroidery or painting- making things by hand became such an integral part of the process of designing for me, and it continues to be the backbone of my work today.
From start to finish Maresca Textiles fabrics and products are hand crafted in my Savannah, GA studio, from the mixing of pigment to silkscreen printing, embroidery and sewing. Every piece is one of a kind because it is hand made. It may seem unorthodox to take on the labor of printing, embroidering and sewing each piece, but the result is a product that has the value of an heirloom more than a simple home accessory.
My design aesthetic is largely inspired by the beauty that surrounds me here in the southern low country. The architecture, landscape, color and history play a huge role in the patterns I design and the palette I use. I take pride in using this place so rooted in tradition as my inspiration to design fresh patterns. |
